[ MISSION DAY ] Volunteer & Giving Opportunities

We are so happy and blessed to be back on the St. Philip campus for Mission Day!
Wear your St. Philip T-shirt (along with your mask) to church.

You can get your hands dirty in the St. Philip garden, learn about quilting
with the St. Philip Stitchers, bring donations for some of our mission partners,
or participate in a mission-focused educational opportunity with the
Church & Society class.

Bring Donations for Our Mission Partners
Three of our mission partners have let us know about current needs, and your donations can help fulfill them.

On Mission Day Sunday, you can drop off your donations in either of two ways:
1) Drive-Thru the porte-cochere between 9:30 and 10:40 a.m., and a mission committee volunteer will pick up your items from your car
2) Bring your items to the Gathering Area between 9:40 and 11:00, or right after 11:00 worship
; there will be a Mission Committee volunteer and a designated collection bin for your donations.

For anyone who will not be able to be at St. Philip on Sunday but would still like to donate, there will be a bonus drive-through on Saturday, February 26, from 10-11:30. Volunteers will be available to pick up your donations on the back side driveway along the old education rooms, where previous mission drive-throughs have been. > VIEW DONATION NEEDS & LIST

Work in the St. Philip Vegetable Garden
Our garden may be small, but it is mighty; we donate hundreds of pounds of produce to the CCSC food pantry every year. For Mission Day 2022, we will be harvesting the last of the greens, clearing out the beds, and amending the soil ahead of planting for the spring/summer garden, which will happen in March. This activity will take place from 9:40 to 10:45 at the garden on the back side of Fellowship Hall. Wear clothes you don’t mind getting dirty; gardening gloves are useful, but not necessary. Anybody of any age is welcome. No sign-up is needed—just show up at the garden ready to work—but if you want more information you can contact Cathy Patterson.

Learn about Quilting and the St. Philip Stitchers Mission
Come to the St. Philip Craft Room (in the old education area) from 9:40-10:45 and find out how the St. Philip Stitchers create their beautiful quilts for the House of Tiny Treasures (a certified early childhood education center for young children experiencing homelessness). Hope Wilmarth will be demonstrating her long-arm quilting machine, “Lucille”, and you will be able to stitch your name on a practice piece. The Stitchers will demonstrate their ministry of care and compassion through sewing. You will be able to help tie a quilt or stitch a block which will later be “pieced” into a quilt top.

Learn about a Mission Partner in the Church & Society Class
C&S’s theme for all of February has been mission, and guest speakers from some of our mission partners are being featured throughout the month. On Mission Day, you can learn about the work of the Hope and Healing Center and Institute of Houston, a ministry providing treatment and education in mental health. The C&S class is held on Zoom from 9:40 to 10:40; you can get the link for the Zoom by contacting Mickey Meyers.
