The St. Philip Choir

St. Philip Church has enjoyed a long tradition of excellent music in worship, and The St. Philip Choir continues to be an important part of that tradition. Recent concerts and musical worship repertoire includes the Gloria by Antonio Vivaldi, Vesperae solennes de confessore by W. A. Mozart, Nun komm, der Heiden Heiland, BWV 61 by J. S. Bach, Requiem by Maurice Duruflé, and Lux aeterna by Morten Lauridsen, as well as traditional and contemporary anthems, motets, and spirituals. The St. Philip Choir is also a vibrant social community, offering friendship, spiritual support, and enjoyment.
Led by Dr. Thomas Goetz, Director of Music, the St. Philip Choir sings at the 11 o’clock service and occasionally at the 8:30 am service. All adults and high school students are welcome to join the choir without audition.

This five-octave handbell choir is open to both experienced and rookie ringers. Bell Canto ring in worship services approximately once a month and participate in handbell festivals annually. This group rehearses weekly from September through May in the Administration Building. Smaller ensembles of ringers are formed as needed, and this provides a unique opportunity for experienced ringers to develop their musicianship through playing in quartets or other small ensembles.

Jubilate! is our choir for children in grades 1 through 5. They rehearse weekly at 9:30 am, during the first half hour of Sunday School from September through May. They sing in a worship service approximately once per month, giving them the opportunity to see that, as young disciples, they are a valuable part of our community of faith, and play a leadership role in the music of worship.
All children are welcome, and encouraged to sing. No prior experience is necessary!

During the summer, children have the opportunity to grow musically through special music during VBS or a separate week, depending on the plans for that particular summer. Musicals or a musical collage have been done in the past, and participants sing individual songs or present a musical at a Sunday morning worship service.
